Tara Peeth , also known as Tarapith, is a revered Hindu pilgrimage site located in the Birbhum district of West Bengal, near the town of Rampurhat. It is dedicated to Maa Tara, one of the ten Mahavidyas in the tantric tradition of Hinduism, and is considered a powerful Shakti Peeth—a sacred spot where parts of Goddess Sati’s body are believed to have fallen.

The temple is renowned for its intense spiritual energy and tantric significance. Devotees come to Tarapith seeking protection, healing, and liberation from fear, negativity, and karmic burdens. The idol of Maa Tara is unique—She is depicted with Shiva lying in Her lap, symbolizing Her nurturing power that soothed Shiva after He consumed the cosmic poison. The temple is also closely associated with Bamakhepa, a legendary tantric saint who worshipped Maa Tara in the cremation grounds nearby, emphasizing Her role as a fierce protector and liberator from worldly illusions
